ANNOUNCING: Portland Music Month, January 2022!

After so many months working to help music professionals just endure and survive, the MusicPortland team is grateful to be focused on creating an exciting new thingPortland Music Month in January 2022.

Portland Music Month (PDXMM) was dreamed up by a number of the originators of the first MusicFestNW and MusicPortland to activate our music scene in the toughest month of the year, to highlight our local talent, and to raise funds for our Musician Grant Fund. The longer term mission of this annual event is to make individual and business direct support of local music a cultural norm.

Mission

● Support artists & venues in the toughest month for live music, when fewer touring acts &

more local talent are booked.

● Cultivate habits of deliberate local music support from fans

● Establish financially supportive relationships with local businesses who benefit directly

from our music culture that helps them attract & retain great employees

● Support artists all year long with project grants with funds generated this month.

● Artists are always paid in full - We never ask musicians or venues to sacrifice to support

a fund meant to sustain them

Method

● $1 up-charge on each ticket for January shows at partnered venues with artist

permission in exchange for heavy promotional support to boost attendance

● Engaged sponsors like WACOM, CD Baby, Omnivore Recording, Five Star Guitars,

More Realty. KEX Hotel, Rational Unicorn Legal Services, Prosper Portland and Travel

Portland. Half of their investments support of the January program and the other half as

underwriters of the Musician Empowerment Grant.

● Create an incentive program to reward music-supportive habits in the fan community. Do

Stuff. Win Sh*t. contest enters people in drawings for checking in from venue shows or

participating brick and mortar businesses, buying merch from artists, publishing recaps

of shows, and donating directly to the Musician Fund.

Facts

● 15 venues ultimately scheduled shows to be part of Portland Music Month

● 122 shows, featuring 221 individual acts

● Incentive prizes worth more than $7000

● Due to Covid, as of January 11th, 22% of all Music Month shows have been postponed

or canceled by the artists. These changes are weighted at the front end of the month

and continue to come in

Updated Mission

● With the increasing number of canceled or postponed shows and the significantly

reduced attendance at those that remain, the fundraising for the Musician Empowerment

Fund has been seriously compromised.

● The organizers of Portland Music Month (501(C)3 MusicPortland Bridge) are now hoping

that the public will step up with direct donations to the Fund via the

PortlandMusicMonth.org site or donation site, givebutter.com/portlandmusicmonth
