Happy New Year from MusicPortland - Attend and Donate at Portland Music Month

WHAT A YEAR!

The team at MusicPortland, MusicPortland Bridge, the Music Policy Council and our Leadership Equity Advocacy Project have never been more proud to work for and represent all of the people who bring music to life in our city. The first half of the year was spent keeping the community informed of resources and benefits available to them, fighting for individuals to secure denied unemployment benefits, and hosting online First Mondays to keep us connected. We developed close alliances with the Oregon Media Production Association (our sister organization representing independent film/video) and continue to evolve the new office or Film and Music within Prosper Portland. Our Music Policy Council created a game changing policy agenda and plan for the city and secured broad based support from three dozen organizations. At November's First Monday, representatives from all of City Council sat down with our Policy Council to discuss our independent music scene as a vital asset in the city and voiced their support. This is a first in the history of the city and will mean a better future for music here.

Portland Music Month

We've spent much of the second half of 2021 in putting together the first annual Portland Music Month to bring the city back out to venues in the darkest month, to raise money for our Independent Musician Empowerment Grant fund and to instill a new music supportive culture in our city. Our independent music ecology will not survive if our city's residents, visitors and businesses do not value and support it.

Since the lure of the couch is so strong, we are incentivizing people (like you!) to come out to shows in January. Our Do Stuff. Win Sh*t game enters you in a drawing for all kinds of prizes every time you attend a show, buy artist merch, answer Portland music quiz questions, promote a show (with #PDXMM) or visit a partner business. Prizes of particular allure to music people includes things like:

  • Two pairs of Campfire Audio In Ear Monitors ($1200 each)

  • Four high-powered, briefcase amplifiers/speakers (worth $440 each)

  • Four $100 gift certificates to Five Star Guitars

  • $100 Swag / Repair credit at Strum Guitars

  • and other stuff that will tempt everyone!

Keep an eye out for the first edition of the Portland Music Month 'Needle drop Newsletter" in a few days. This will be a weekly update sent only through January, but it will keep you up to date on all of the new prizes added, quiz your Portland music knowledge and keep you updated on how much money we are raising for our local artists. Of course, you can always unsubscribe if you do not want to receive this short term, MusicPortland publication.
