These small businesses, standing alone, have been subject to the whims of city government, residents and the market. Until now.
Together we can show our industry’s solidarity, quantify our impact on the local economy, and undertake actions that will significantly improve conditions for music businesses in Portland. We must work together in an integrated and strategic way to create new approaches that support all players in the local music scene. We cannot do it without you.
MusicPortland OBJECTIVES TO SUPPORT MUSIC PROFESSIONALS:
Building Portland’s first-ever Music Industry Directory to promote our wealth of local music businesses and independent music professionals to new customers locally, nationally, and internationally.
Established the city’s first-ever Music Policy Council at City Hall, to review and make recommendations to optimize all policy and regulations that impact local music. (Sept 2019)
Grow local music businesses with programs to connect you with other music professionals and economic development organizations to grow revenue, collaboration, and collective purchasing opportunities
Support new access to potential customers at MusicPortland events, music tourism programs and Portland’s first Gear Fest expo of Portland-made musical equipment
Promote a collective MusicPortland brand nationally and internationally to position your business within a uniquely vibrant and innovative music ecosystem (think Nashville)
Expanding business advantages from the City of Portland by establishing the Music Industry as a key economic cluster within City Government and Prosper Portland.
Gathering data for the first Economic Impact Study on the Portland music industry; the resulting quantified data on our local music economy will inform all future advocacy and promotional efforts
Expanding Portland Office of Film to become the Portland Office of Film & Music. This will mean that the City acknowledges Music as an economic driver in the the city that will position it for benefits enjoyed by Film and other industries.
Hosting monthly professional networking events since September 2018. Join us at an upcoming event!
Exploring Enterprise zone for music businesses that would provide tax breaks and long term secure, below market rates for commercial space
