The United Voice of the Portland Independent Music Industry

As a grassroots, nonprofit advocacy group of music professionals, we believe powerful change
can only be created when a diverse coalition of people exercises their collective influence.

Our mission is to make Portland a better place to be a music professional. We do this by uniting, defending, and amplifying
the voices of the people who make up Portland’s independent music industry. Our membership draws from all corners of
Portland music—from musicians and labels to producers and venues—in an effort to create economic opportunity for all.

We identify and oppose threats to any part of the music ecosystem while advocating for investment and accommodation.

AMPLIFY

We’re building an international brand that tells the world we are a powerful system of creative professionals, committed to the business of innovation and authenticity.

Our Impact

In response to COVID-19, we successfully lobbied for the largest City and State relief allocations to save music venues in the United States. We have provided nearly 50 resource updates, funding opportunity notices, and music-specific instructions to help folks navigate government relief programs. We secured $500K+ in denied OED PUA claims for music professionals through 1:1 case management. We established a partner 501c3 organization called MusicOregon to focus on social justice and creative empowerment in our music industry.

Since our launch in 2019, we have helped enact Musician Loading Zones at 16 local venues. We host Monthly Meet-ups of more than a hundred local music professionals. We are organizing the first annual Portland Gear Fest, an expo of dozens of Portland's boutique music manufacturers. With strong allies within City Hall and other agencies, MusicPortland has elected the City’s first-ever Music Policy Council, giving the music community a voice in city policy, practices, and regulations to make Rose City more music supportive. We are building Portland’s first-ever Music Industry Directory. Read more about our initiatives here.

[The Portland] metro area’s population may rank only 25th in the U.S., but it claims at least 1,100 music businesses, around 2,000 performing acts, nearly 300 live venues and 200-plus promoted concerts a week — putting it near the top of any of these categories on a per-capita basis.
